Chrysler had quite an impressive year in terms of engineering, especially because two of the automaker’s engines made it onto the 2015 Ward’s 10 Best Engines List. After extensive testing, the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 and the 6.2-liter Hemi® Hellcat V8 were named as some of the best engines in the world.
While the 6.2-liter Hemi Hellcat V8 is certainly an impressive engine, the EcoDiesel stole the show by being the only diesel named to the list. The 2015 Ram 1500 engine delivers 420 lb-ft of torque, and when paired with the TorqueFlite eight-speed transmission, gets 28 mpg. Not bad for a heavy-duty pickup.
“[The EcoDiesel] uses the most-sophisticated emissions-reducing technology available, making it saleable in all 50 states, putting real eco in the EcoDiesel name. Plus, it features a block and bedplate made of ultra-strong compacted graphite iron that trims weight, improves NVH and enables a more space-efficient design,” said Drew Winter, editor-in-chief of Ward’s Auto World.
According to Chrysler, the Ram 1500 diesel engine uses an advanced rail injection system and lightweight construction, both of which contribute to the engine’s incredible performance. Want to check out the award-winning diesel? Stop by Cronic Chrysler today.
