From the very first day that the Dodge Dart was announced, we have continued to keep our fingers crossed for an SRT version. Over the past months, we’ve seen models with unique paint and trim, hotted-up GT models, Eco models, luxury-oriented models, and more. Mopar parts are also available to make your Dart more special. However, we’ve still got an SRT4 sized hole in our hearts that can only be filled by something truly special. That’s why we were especially excited when the new 5-year plan for Chrysler was released, including mention of a Dart SRT model to be released as a 2017 model!
There is not much information given in the 5-year plan, but it’s still more than enough to get us excited. Along with a new Challenger SRT, Charger SRT, and a Journey SRT (believe it or not) Chrysler has plans to create an AWD Dart SRT with a High-Output, Turbocharged engine. These upgrades take the Dart SRT further than we could have ever imagined. With a sport-tuned suspension and chassis, the Dart already has excellent handling but an AWD system is always welcome and should keep the extra power in check. Chrysler has already coaxed 284 horsepower out of their 2.4L engine, a likely candidate for powering the SRT Dart, and our best guesses include extra tuning that could bump it up to around 300 hp with a strong torque curve.
