How to Diagnose a Bad Car Air Conditioner

Spring is coming, which means soon we might start needing to crank up the air conditioner, but when it’s not being used over the winter, it could be wearing out or getting damaged in ways you don’t realize. Here are some signs of a bad car air conditioner to keep an eye out for.

The easiest way to tell your AC is bad is if you turn it on and nothing happens. Obvious, but there are a lot of different possible causes for it, like leaking Freon, a block, a mode door, or something else. If you don’t have any AC, you should get it checked out by a technician and at least have the problem diagnosed.

If you hear loud rattling when you turn on the AC, it could be a sign that something is clogged or blocked, or it could mean something is on the verge of breaking. Again, if you hear this, you should take it to a professional.

A bad smell may come out of the AC when you turn it on, and in that case, you should take it to a shop immediately. Bad smells are a sign of mold, and if you breathe it in for too long, it could cause respiratory issues.
