Like all seasons, summer comes with its own host of challenges for drivers to overcome. While the heat is a clear sign to many drivers to check their cooling system, some preparations aren’t as obvious or are easily forgotten about. Here’s some summer car prep you shouldn’t skip from us here at Cronic CDJR!
- Oil – Changing your oil consistently is important yet round but it’s especially important during summer. The summer heat will thin oil and old, worn out oil could fall flat. If you plan on heading across the country or towing heavy loads, getting an oil change prior to leaving is incredibly important for your vehicle’s health. The last thing anyone want s is to be broken down away from home. Consult your owner’s manual to see when your car needs an oil change.
- Battery – A car battery can fail at any point in time which makes routine care the best way to avoid buying a replacement. Scrape away and clean corrosion, check for bulges, bumps, and other abnormalities, and tighten the connections. Make sure to wear rubber gloves!
- Lights – While summer tends to be dry, some areas receive thunderstorms every so often. If you find yourself caught in a storm, burnt-out lights could put you in significant danger. Check your lights, clean your lenses, and take care of any problems before you find yourself in a storm.
